Understanding thyroid support

Your thyroid runs
on a pathway.

From the signal in your brain to the energy in your cells, thyroid hormones move through a chain of steps — and specific nutrients sit at each one. Here's that pathway, ingredient by ingredient, with the science kept honest.

The conversion step

T4 → T3, and why selenium matters

Most of what the thyroid releases is T4 — a storage form. The body converts it into the active form, T3, using selenium-dependent enzymes called deiodinases.

Selenium is a cofactor for the deiodinase enzymes involved in converting T4 to active T3, and it's part of the antioxidant systems that protect thyroid tissue. That's why Thyrox is built around 100 µg of selenium (182% NRV) as well-absorbed L-selenomethionine.

✓ Selenium contributes to normal thyroid function ✓ Selenium contributes to protection of cells from oxidative stress

Every ingredient, honestly labelled

Each card shows the dose, the form, and only the health claims that are authorised for that nutrient. Where an ingredient has no authorised claim, we say so and describe its role for context only.

A deliberate choice

Why Thyrox is iodine-free

NO
IODINE

More isn't always better

Iodine is a raw material the thyroid normally uses to build its hormones. But many people in the UK already get enough from diet, and with iodine, the dose window matters — too much can be as much of a problem as too little.

Thyrox deliberately leaves iodine out and supports the pathway through selenium instead, which is involved in converting and protecting thyroid hormones. If you have a diagnosed thyroid condition or take thyroid medication, talk to your doctor before adding any iodine — or any new supplement.

The takeaway

Support the pathway, not the hype.

Thyrox is built around the nutrients with a genuine, authorised role in the thyroid and hormonal pathway — selenium first, no iodine, nothing padding the label.
